Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that we are in the final 2 weeks of school for 2023. Whilst the days may be ticking over quickly, there are celebrations, excursions and events still to come.
Firstly, I want to acknowledge all the students who recently participated at the Champions Swimming Carnival and the Schools Triathlon. Goulburn Street may only be a small school, but we always perform exceptionally well at these events. A special thanks to the staff and parent volunteers who supported the Triathlon, as it is one of the biggest and busiest events on the calendar and without your support it simply would not be possible.
On Friday night our Under 9 (6pm), Under 10 (6:40pm) and Under 11 (7:20pm) Futsal teams will compete in the Term 4 Grand finals. All 3 teams made the finals in extraordinary fashion, with last second goals and extra time golden goals. The Futsal Centre in Goodwood provides a great atmosphere, so please get along and support the GSPS teams on Friday night!
Our Year 6 students are in the final stages of their primary school education and to celebrate we have multiple events and activities planned.
Government House Open Day – Wednesday 13th December
Student have been invited to Government House to experience a range of activities and performances. Students will also receive a present from Santa and be provided with a lunch hamper.
Leavers’ Breakfast – Thursday 14th December – 7:30am – School Hall
The leavers’ breakfast has become an annual tradition, which enables our Year 6 students and the whole school staff to come together and celebrate. Students are required to be at school at 7:30am and the breakfast will conclude at 8:15am. Note that this is student and staff event only.
Leavers Assembly – Wednesday 20th December – 1.30pm – School Hall
Families and friends of our Year 6 students are formally invited to attend the final assembly for 2023. This assembly is a celebration for our Year 6 students and recognises they have achieved over their years at Goulburn Street. The assembly will include the 2/3 and the 3-6 choir, our popular ‘then and now’ photo montage, a blurb about each student, presentations of awards to the school by special dignitaries and a song performed by our Year 6 leavers. Due to the size of our hall, this assembly is for family and friends of year 6 students only.
Our last day for students is Thursday 21st of December. To support end of year activities and classroom preparation for 2024, please be prepared to take home all your children’s belongings prior to the last day.
Warm Regards,
Michael
'Last Wednesday Prep 1 BC traveled by bus to the Botanical Gardens to watch the play 'Pinocchio'. We had wonderful weather, and after enjoying the show the children had their morning tea followed by a walk through the Botanical Gardens. '
This year we have spent some time connecting with our buddy class 5/6 Brelis. Yesterday we met for the last time this year to read to our buddies and play a game together. Thanks for being such great buddies 5/6s!
1/2 Shepherd and 2/3 James Excursion
This Thursday, the 14th of December, 1/2 Shepherd and 2/3 James will be walking to the Train Park in West Hobart. We will be departing school at 11am, straight after recess. We will return to school at approximately 2pm. We will be cooking a sausage sizzle at the park for lunch but students will still need recess and a small snack for lunch time/return to school. A filled drink bottle for the day will be essential. Comfortable walking shoes and full school uniform including a hat will also be required. Parents are invited to join us to help with walking there and back and supervision at the park. Please let Miss James or Miss Shepherd know if you can make it along. Thank you.
As a celebration of their time at Goulburn Street Primary we are planning a ‘Big Day Out’ for the Year 6 students. This will happen on the last day of the school year, Thursday 21st December.
Students will leave school by bus at 9.20am and return by 3.00pm.
Mrs Tymms and Mrs Brelis will both accompany the group.
Students are able to wear casual clothes with shoes appropriate for walking. They will need to bring:
- water bottle
- food for morning tea
- a packed lunch for the pool or students may purchase lunch at the pool kiosk
- bathers, towel and plastic bag
- hat (and sunscreen)
There will be a cost of $10.00 per student that will help towards the costs of the day which will include golf at Putters Golf, an ice cream, entry to the Aquatic Centre and bus. Students can pay this at the office as soon as possible.
Next Friday afternoon at 2.00pm, we will be holding our Red Carpet Event and sharing the completed films from Film Club 2023. The films will be shown in the school hall. Parents, families and the classes of the film club students will be invited to attend. Thank you for supporting your children with this project. The completed films are very impressive and are a product of many hours of planning, filming and editing. It will be very exciting to share the films with our school community.
