Dear Families,  

A warm welcome back to all our students and families for the first day of the 2024 school year. It was wonderful to see all the students return to school, looking refreshed, ready to learn and catch up with their friends. A big thanks to the School Association for providing a coffee van and pastries for sale at the start of the day, this has proven to be a great initiative to bring our community together and meet new families. 

Firstly, I want to acknowledge the hard work and most of all the patience of our Kinder/Prep team in getting the classrooms ready for the first day. It has been a long journey since the floods in early Term 4, and without the fully committed team going above and beyond, the rooms would not have been ready.  

New staff 

We welcome Mrs Louise Anders to our staff as our new Student Support and Wellbeing Team leader and Safeguarding Lead. Louise is a very experience leader and teacher who will bring a wealth of knowledge to the role. Louise will be contacting families who have children with learning plans over the coming weeks, to begin the process of setting new goals for 2024.

Canteen 

Unfortunately, LilTuckers will not be continuing our canteen service this year. We are currently investigating other options and are hoping to have this available by week 3. We are unsure what day of the week this will be, but ordering through the Qkr app will remain the same. Over the counter sales of ice-creams/quelch sticks will commence tomorrow and continue daily at lunch time.  

Athletics Carnival 

Our 3-6 Athletics Carnival will be held at the Domain Athletics Centre on Wednesday 21st February from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Families are encouraged to attend. We would appreciate some parent help on the day to support the running of events. If you are available to help, please let the office know.  Students in Year 6 who wish to be considering for House Captains/Vice Captains will be provided with information tomorrow. 

A reminder that this Monday 12th February is Regatta Day Public Holiday, school will resume on Tuesday 13th February.

Day 1 at Goulburn Street

Due to staffing changes our Launching into Learning Program will now run on Friday mornings from 9-10:30am upstairs in the Early Childhood building (next to Prep/1E).

Mrs Chante Ellerton is excited to be working with our youngest students and their families during these sessions, which will begin on Friday 23^rd March!

Our timetable will be released early next week, so look out for it in the newsletter, on the school noticeboard and on our Facebook page!

Nelson Sound choir are celebrating 20 years this year! We have a couple of spots left in all sections so If you are keen to sing with us, come along to our open day on Wednesday February 21st 7-8.30 pm at Goulburn street primary school hall.

Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) 2024 hard copy forms are available on the Intranet on the School Levies and Charges page for schools to print if required. Alternatively, schools can contact Financial Assistance Services via email at stas@decyp.tas.gov.au and request forms to be posted.

Parents/guardians who are applying for STAS for the first time are encouraged to apply online at www.onlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au , alternatively applicants can search STAS in Google and be taken directly to the online application site. Applications can be completed on any electronic device including mobile phones. Parents/guardians must hold a current Centrelink concession card or Department of Veterans’ Affairs concession card to be eligible.

STAS 2024 assessment letters have been posted to all families.

If a parent/guardian wishes to add a newly enrolling or additional student to their existing STAS file they need to email their full name, the student’s full name, date of birth and school attending in 2024 to stas@decyp.tas.gov.au  and the file will be updated. Financial Assistance Services will also accept details of newly enrolled children of families who are approved for STAS directly from schools via email to stas@decyp.tas.gov.au.
