Dear Families,
As the year draws to a close we certainly haven’t slowed down at Goulburn Street! Over the past two weeks we have had many wonderful events, performances and excursions. The annual DEC choir and band concert was held last Friday night with over 50 of our students taking part in the event. It was an amazing night of music and singing and I’d like to take this opportunity to thanks Mrs Cross for teaching our year 5/6 band this year and Mrs Jakins for teaching our choir. Mrs Cross will not be returning in 2020 and we thank her for her contribution to our school band program this year. Mrs Jakins after a long affiliation with our school will not be continuing our choir program in 2020 and we thank her for providing our students with such a wonderful opportunity.
The annul school’s triathlon was held last Friday at Bellerive Beach and unfortunately the weather was not kind, however, our students showed great persistence, perseverance and grit to finish the event in tough conditions. Thanks to Mrs Coe and Miss Walsh for supporting the students on the day.
At the end of the year we will be farewelling Miss Walch as she moves into a full-time position at another school. She has been an outstanding member of staff whose contribution to the school community will be sadly missed. We are also farewelling Peta Woodberry, who is retiring at the end of the year. Peta has worked in the Kindergarten at Goulburn Street for 9 years and her care and professionalism of our youngest students in the school will also be sadly missed by not only the staff but I am sure the whole Goulburn Street community.
We welcomed our 2020 Kindergarten students to our school with Orientation day on Wednesday and Thursday last week. It was great to see all the students with their parents getting familiar with the environment and making connections in preparation for starting Kinder next year.
Today we have two performances of our annual Year 6 Pantomime. The amount of work and effort that’s gone into this performance is a credit to the students and Mrs Tymms. As a new person in the school I cannot wait to see what the students have produced and look forward to seeing family and friends for the evening performance tonight at 7pm.
A reminder we have our final Community Assembly this Friday 13 December at 11:20 and our Year 6 Leaver’s Assembly next Wednesday 18 December at 1:40pm.
Finally, I want to thank all of you for being so welcoming of me in my first year as Principal of this great school. I am looking forward to leading this school into the future as we truly have a great team of staff, students and parents and friends to work with. I hope you all have a safe and happy Christmas and return refreshed and ready to go in February next year.
Regards Michael Park
Well done to all athletes that participated in the School Triathlon Challenge last Friday. All students should be congratulated on their efforts and having a positive attitude on the day considering the weather conditions. Below are some photos of the day.

West Hobart Community Christmas Carols.
The West Hobart Community, in partnership with Lansdowne Crescent, Goulburn Street and Campbell Street Primary Schools, is once again very proud to present the West Hobart Community Christmas Carols. This is a free, family friendly event (gold coin donation is optional) and everyone is very welcome.
The music program includes a fabulous array of choirs from each primary school, as well as some great local talent. There are rumours that Santa may even call in with some Christmas cheer. Of course, a highlight of the event will be the opportunity to join family and friends to sing an array of traditional Christmas carols.
For the adventurous, all adults in West Hobart are invited to join our West Hobart Community Choir and help lead some of the Carols. Please check out the West Hobart Good Karma and Lansdowne Crescent Primary SCA Facebook pages for details of practice times.
The Carols will be held on the West Hobart Oval (next to Lansdowne Crescent Primary School). There will be limited parking at the site, so best park around the streets of West Hobart and enjoy a short leisurely walk to the event.
Food (including desert) will be available from 6.00pm, with Carols starting at 7.00pm. Feel free to bring a picnic.

Hand Casting Workshop 5/6Tymms
Recently 5/6 Tymms participated in a Casting Workshop with John Vella from UTAS. The children created plaster moulds of their hands. Later these moulds will be filled with wax and then the plaster will be removed to reveal positive casts of each students hand. Lots of bad 'hand' jokes were shared and the children can't wait to give their parents a 'hand' this Christmas!
