Dear Families,

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff, students, parents, and the wider school community for their hard work and dedication throughout Term 3. Life in a school is always busy, with each day offering new challenges and experiences. At Goulburn Street, our priority is to ensure that all students feel valued and supported to become successful learners while building positive connections within the school environment.

During Term 3, we were finally able to open our Big Slide after many months of challenges. The slide has been a huge success with our students, and I’d like to extend my gratitude to the School Association and the entire school community for their fundraising efforts, which helped cover the associated costs. The school is currently reviewing options for new play equipment, and we will announce decisions next term.

We will kick off Term 4 with our Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival on Wednesday, 16th October. The event will be held at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre from 10am to 1pm. Parents and friends are welcome to attend, and we will need volunteers on the day to help support the event.

Finally, I’d like to wish you all a wonderful school holiday break and hope you get the chance to spend quality time with your family and friends. Term 4 will begin on Monday 14th October.

On Monday 28th of October, 3/4CA and 4/5C will be going on an excursion to Bedlam Walls, Geilston Bay.  The excursion will be led by Trish from NITA and will be part of our work on Aboriginal culture.

We will be travelling by bus to the start of the walk, leaving school at 9.30am.  During the morning, we will walk around the track and participate in activities with Trish.  We will leave the site at 1.30pm and return to school. 

Students will need to bring their recess, lunch and a drink bottle.  Students should wear school uniform and shoes suitable for walking, it would be advisable to bring a coat in the case of cold weather.

Parent help would be greatly appreciated.  Please let your child’s class teacher know if you can attend.

On the 11th of November 1/2 Shepherd and 2/3 James will be visiting Zoo Doo for the day. We will depart school at approximately 9.15am and return to school by about 2.45pm. Parents are welcome to join us at a cost of $25 per person and will need to make their own way there as we have limited capacity on the bus. 

We will be doing some worked based in the classroom at Zoo Doo as well as completing a guided tour with animal feeding included. Students will need to bring a packed lunch and drink bottle, wear full school uniform and comfortable walking shoes. Please let Miss Shepherd or Miss James know if you are able to make it along!

Independent Education Review

Have your say on the future of Tasmania’s education system

The Tasmanian Government has established an Independent Review of Tasmania’s education system to improve the education system over the next 10 years. And they want to hear from families, children and young people of all ages, and members of the community.

There are multiple ways you can get involved:

1. Respond to the public Consultation Paper
2. Complete the survey for educators, families and the community
3. Complete the short survey for students
4. Submit a creative response to the question (for children and young people only): Imagine yourself at the end of school, what have you learned, what have you achieved and who do you want to be?

Submissions responding to the Consultation Paper must be submitted by Sunday 13 October 2024, and all other consultation opportunities will close on Sunday 27 October 2024.

Congratulations to all students who participated in Winter Sports in Term 3.

Orders need to be delivered to the office no later than recess  on Thursday for delivery on Friday. Students need to bring along a paper bag with their name, class and order written on it and money preferably wrapped in foil inside the bag (if you have a sibling, money can be put into one bag for both if easier). We will investigate other forms of payment in time.

Launching into Learning

In some exciting news for Goulburn Street Primary School, we have been chosen to feature in the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s Qualiteach modules designed for educators of birth – 4 year old programs. The focus of the modules will be on early language and literacy skills, that lay a strong foundation for learning to read and write. Prior to the end of term, we will be visited by Jodi and Georgia who are leading this Early Years Project to meet with us and film elements of our LiL program. These video examples will provide the opportunity for educators to see each strategies in action and will build the capabilities of all staff across the early years!

LiL Excursion

On Friday 27^th September the Launching into Learning session will take place at Caldew Park (the Train Park) in West Hobart. Mrs Ellerton will meet families at the park, with the session running from 9-10:30am. This will be the final session for Term 3! In the case of inclement weather, the session will be in the LiL classroom. Please refer to the school Facebook page on the morning of the excursion for this information.

Term 3 and 4 Schedules

Please find attached LiL schedules for the remainder of Term 3, as well as the schedule for Term 4. Please note that LiL sessions will be paused during our Pre-Kinder sessions in November.

Dear Families,

Goulburn Street has been notified by the Department of Health of 1 confirmed case of Whooping cough. Please find attached the Department of Heath Whooping Cough Fact sheet which provides key information about the illness and steps to take if you suspect your child has been infected.

A reminder to all families that if your child is presenting with any flu/cold like symptoms they are to remain at home.
