Dear Families,

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Year 3-6 swimming carnival! The day was filled with excitement as our students performed exceptionally, giving their all in every race and showing fantastic sportsmanship throughout the event. The spirit of healthy competition was evident as students cheered passionately for their respective houses, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere. It was a nail-biting finish, with Phoenix edging out Oak by just six points. A big thanks to the parent volunteers who supported with place marshalling throughout the day.

Looking ahead, we’re excited for our students selected for the inter-school swimming team as they prepare to compete at the SPSSA Swimming Carnival next Tuesday 5^th November. Please remember to return permission forms for your child’s participation in this event.

As we plan for 2025, class placements are currently being organized. If parents would like to make a class placement request, please submit these in writing to michael.park@decyp.tas.gov.au or schedule an appointment to discuss your request by calling our office at 6234 1884. Please note, we can only consider requests based on educational grounds and not for specific teacher or friendship preferences. To ensure all considerations are processed in time, please submit requests by Friday 1^st November.

Finally, we wish our two teams competing in the Tournament of Minds National Event in Sydney the very best of luck. We’re incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication and look forward to hearing about their experiences and achievements.

On the 11th of November 1/2 Shepherd and 2/3 James will be visiting Zoo Doo for the day. We will depart school at approximately 9.15am and return to school by about 2.45pm. Parents are welcome to join us at a cost of $25 per person and will need to make their own way there as we have limited capacity on the bus. 

We will be doing some worked based in the classroom at Zoo Doo as well as completing a guided tour with animal feeding included. Students will need to bring a packed lunch and drink bottle, wear full school uniform and comfortable walking shoes. Please let Miss Shepherd or Miss James know if you are able to make it along!

Our pre-kinder program will be held in the kinder classroom on the following dates:
Week 1 – Monday 4th November
Week 2 – Monday 11th November
Week 3 – Monday 18th November
Week 4 – Monday 25th November

We will be offering two separate timeslots each day and we are asking families to opt into
the session that best suits their needs.

Session 1 9:00am to 10:30am
Session 2 11:00am to 12:30pm

These sessions are a great opportunity for your child to become familiar with our school
environment and routines. There will be time allowed for students to have a snack, and this
preferably would include some fresh fruit or vegetables. If possible, please bring this snack
along in a lunchbox similar to the lunchbox students will use in kindergarten as we
encourage them to be able to independently open and close lunchboxes. Please also bring
along a filled water bottle.

There will be time during these sessions for students to investigate the kinder playground
and Natureland, along with other areas of the school such as the library and school hall.
Please bring a sun safe hat along to each session. Uniform items and price lists will be
available during the sessions.

In some exciting news for Goulburn Street Primary School, we have been chosen to feature in the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s Qualiteach modules designed for educators of birth – 4 year old programs. The focus of the modules will be on the early language and literacy skills that lay a strong foundation for learning to read and write. During our session on Friday 8^th of November, we will be visited by the DECYP Early Years team and their film crew. The video examples taken will be used to provide the opportunity for educators to see each strategy in action and will build the capabilities of all staff across the early years! Mrs Ellerton will collect signed consent forms from families attending this session prior to filming.

Grade 5/6 Tymms have been busy learning about electronic circuits and creating their own pressure pad burglar alarms.

They are also preparing for the 2024 Goulburn Street Mock Parliament, by polishing up on their debating and oratory skills.

Come dressed in your Halloween outfit if you want to enter.

Orders need to be delivered to the office no later than recess  on Thursday for delivery on Friday. Students need to bring along a paper bag with their name, class and order written on it and money preferably wrapped in foil inside the bag (if you have a sibling, money can be put into one bag for both if easier). We will investigate other forms of payment in time. 

Sushi will be $3.50 a piece

Vegetarian - (inari, red capsicum, cucumber, carrot and daikon)

Teriyaki Chicken - (teriyaki chicken with cucumber and carrot)

Avocado - (fresh avocado with Japanese mayo)

Cooked Tuna - (cooked tuna with sweet corn, carrot and cucumber)

Smoked Salmon - (Tasmanian smoked salmon with carrot and cucumber)

Californian - (crabstick with avocado , Japanese mayo and cucumber)

For those looking to make the jump from primary school football to youth club football and existing youth players, Hobart United welcomes you to our preseason academy. 

You will receive:

-Coaching and development from experienced coaches -

-An affordable fee structure, $185 for the entirety of the program ($140 for those that already have a training uniform)
