Dear Families,

A warm welcome back to school and the start of Term 2! I hope you all had a wonderful break, spending quality time with family and friends.

Unfortunately, the start of term has brought with it a change in the weather. This is a reminder that our school has a full uniform policy, and warmer uniform items, such as jackets and polar fleeces, are available from the school office daily. Students are no longer required to wear hats during this term.

Our newsletter has been sent out a day early to ensure families are aware of the upcoming Election Day BBQ and cake stall on Saturday, 3rd May. The School Association is looking for volunteers to help on the day, so please contact the office if you're able to assist, they are also asking for your suppport by contributing to the cake stall with a delicious cake or plate of biscuits / slices, jar of jam, bottle of sauce or similar. Paper plates will be coming home with your child today and we ask that they be returned to the office with your goodies on Friday. 

A big congratulations to all our students who participated in the SSPCA Champions Carnival at the end of Term 1. Special recognition goes to Stella Wakefield in Year 3, who has made the State Team for both the 100-meter individual and the relay team - what an incredible achievement!

Lastly, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Floyd Harley, our new Groundsman. Floyd started working with us late last term and is doing a fantastic job maintaining our school grounds. We’re lucky to have him on board - welcome Floyd!

Goulburn Street's Launch into Learning will commence again from this Friday the 2nd of May with Mrs Ellerton in the Kinder classroom.

The impending Federal Election on Saturday 3rd May will bring many people from the broader community to our school. An effective fundraiser for this day is to have a sausage sizzle outside in the Rose Garden and to have a stall with homemade treats on sale in the corridor outside the office. The School Association are asking for your suppport by contributing to the stall with a delicious cake or plate of biscuits / slices, jar of jam, bottle of sauce or similar will be greatly appreciated. Plates will be coming home with your child today. It is prefered that cakes etc are delivered to the office the day before (Friday the 2nd of May, however they can also be dropped on the Saturday morning.

On Tuesday 6^th May we will be holding our K-6 Cross Country Carnival at school.

Cross Country is generally run in all conditions unless deemed unsafe, so it is important that you send your child prepared. We ask that they have the following on the day:

• Appropriate clothing for running including running shoes
• A warm jumper or jacket to put on while waiting
• A house-coloured top if available (Oak-Green, Phoenix-Yellow)
• Plenty of water

 Timetable for the day:

We would love to see as many family members as possible here cheering on their children.  The viewing space for family will be along the brick wall on the oval. If you can help on the day we are after some volunteers to be stationed around the track.  Please contact the office if you can help for all or part of the carnival.

Our annual Mothers Day Stall is Friday the 9th of May.  We have once again purchased small gifts that will be on sale from $2.00 - $6.00 and there will be enough for anyone wanting to purchase. 

Our Kinder - 6 classes will be having a very exciting and inspirational time of music making when Jon Madin visits our school on Wednesday 21st May and Thursday 22nd May, for class workshops. Jon is an experienced and engaging classroom music teacher, composer and musical instrument designer, who has worked extensively both in Australia and overseas. The children will play on his marimbas and own hand-made instruments such as musical singing bikes, dingboxes, echocellos, shaker rings. Many will remember Jon’s terrific past visits to GSPS.  

You are all invited to a school community concert with Jon and Prep-6 classes which will take place in the hall on Thursday 22nd May, starting at 2pm. This is a great opportunity for the children to showcase the work they’ve done in their class workshops. We hope you can make it!

Any parents who would be willing to lend a hand to bump in or out on either Wednesday 21st May, 8 am onwards or Thursday 22nd May, 3 pm onwards, please let Christine, Claire or Fran know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Training:

Training for U/8-U/9 Boys and U/10-U/11 is at TCA at the Domain from 4pm-5pm on Tuesdays.

Auskick is on 4pm-5pm at TCA at the Domain.
