Dear Families,
We are aware of social media posts around potential anti-social activities in and around Hobart today.
Tasmania Police has advised that they have increased their presence. They are conducting planned patrols and safety operations to keep public spaces safe for everyone.
Today at our school
The safety of students, staff and visitors to our site is our highest priority. Our focus is making sure that everyone is supported to be safe while they are at school.
We have strategies in place and will take any necessary steps to ensure students feel safe throughout the school day.
Travelling home from school today
If your child/ren typically walks home or catches public transport, we would encourage you to make alternative arrangements or to be in regular contact with your child/ren, wherever possible.
Outside of school
At home, we encourage you to speak to your child/ren openly about these matters and help them to understand why violent and aggressive behaviour is never okay.
Violence and aggression can come in many forms, including disrespect or discrimination, aggression, teasing or name calling, fighting or physical violence, filming and posting these behaviours.
We strongly encourage you to check your child/ren understands why these behaviours are harmful and why it’s important to report them.
By ignoring violence, we’re saying it’s OK. It’s important for all members of our school community to not be a bystander and speak up when they see or hear about these harmful behaviours.
Ask your child/ren if they’d feel safe reporting or speaking up and talk about ways they can feel empowered to take action.
By helping to prevent these behaviours, we can stop community violence, show victims they have support and show their aggressors that we as a community won’t stand for it.
Further support:
If you or your child is worried or needs to talk, they can also speak to one of our school professional support staff. Please contact the school office on 62341884 to arrange this.
