Dear Families,
We have a busy term ahead with lots of exciting things happening.
On Tuesday 12th August, our students will have the opportunity to experience The NED Show—an engaging performance that promotes a positive mindset through the themes of Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. This interactive show delivers powerful messages about resilience and kindness, and we know our students will enjoy it. As part of the program, yo-yos are available for purchase at the office to help reinforce these lessons through play.
Our annual Year 3 to Year 6 Swimming Carnival will be held on Wednesday 13th August at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre. Please ensure students come prepared with their bathers, towels, goggles, and food. Students will not be permitted to use the kiosk during the event.
The Young Archies is one of my favourite events on the school calendar, and the final portraits now on display in the front office are a testament to the hard work and talent of our students. Sixteen artworks have been selected by students and staff to enter the state-wide competition across the following categories: K/P, 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6.
Congratulations to:
- K/P: Audrey, Huxley, Winnie, and Kiaan
- 1/2: Patrick, Evie, Agnes, and Rafferty
- 3/4: Misha, Immy, Yusra, and Owen
- 5/6: Evie, Thomas, Edward, and Ella
The State-wide Young Archies Exhibition, which will include the work of our students listed above, will be held at the UTAS School of Creative Arts and Media, Hunter Street, Hobart, from Thursday 25th August to Friday 7th September. The exhibition will be open daily from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm, and we encourage everyone to visit and celebrate our students’ creativity.
Our first assembly for the term will be on Friday 15th August. This assembly will focus on the National Day of Action Against Bullying and explore how we can make our school a safe and welcoming environment for our whole community. Our classes sharing on the day will be Prep Budgeon/Ellerton and 3/4 Brelis, with 3/4 Coe/Johnston as our hosts.
Warm Regards
Michael
The NED Show is visiting our school on Tuesday the 12th of August! The assembly is filled with storytelling, humour, illusions and amazing yo-yo tricks where our kids learn the hidden message in...
NED's name:
Never give up
Encourage others
Do your best®
Do you want to learn to yo?
A yo-yo is both a learning tool and a tangible reminder of NED's message.
While learning to yo, children will make mistakes, try again and improve.
In April, Sybella (P1 Evans) and Audette (K Medcraft) Jury had the unique opportunity to travel to Jamaica, where they visited a small countryside school nestled deep in the rural landscape. As we drove along the gravel road, we passed lush jungle scenery, overgrown cornfields, wild goats and chickens, and friendly locals going about their daily lives—a true snapshot of rural Jamaica.
The school, called Cleveland Porter School, caters to around 50 children aged 3 to 7 years. It operates entirely through donations and fundraising and receives no government support. Thankfully, the owners of a hotel in Negril generously fund daily cooked lunches for the children, ensuring they are well-fed while they learn.
We were warmly welcomed by the headmistress, Miss Ramasar, who generously shared her insights into Jamaica’s education system. She even taught Sybella a fun lesson about greater than and less than using the song “The Alligator Eats the Number That Is Greater”—a clever and catchy way to make learning fun.
Later, the children gathered in a communal area where we spoke to them about Tasmania and our unique Australian animals. Sybella read “That’s Not My Koala” to the group and presented them with some picture books and a plush Tasmanian devil. We also donated school supplies including crayons and paper.
Because Cleveland Porter School is further from Negril than most, it doesn’t receive as many visitors or as much support. Despite this, Miss Ramasar, her team, and the children were incredibly warm and welcoming.
It was a truly special experience for our family—one that reminded us how powerful it is to connect, share, and learn from one another across cultures and communities.

On Monday 18th August, Kinder will be visiting the Glenorchy Library to share in their Book Week celebrations. They have some wonderful experiences on offer which tie in with this year’s theme of “Book an Adventure!”.
They will be depart school at 9:05am, so please ensure children are here before the bell. After visiting the library, they will visit Benjafield Playground in Moonah for morning tea and a play, returning to school at approximately 12:30pm.
Please ensure children are wearing full school uniform and bring a packed recess and lunch along with a drink.
Please ask Mrs Medcaft if you have any questions!
