Dear Families,
I am pleased to announce that the school has launched a Facebook page to provide another point for communicating and celebrating. The page will be used to provide updates for key events like; assemblies, excursions, sporting events and carnivals. We will also use to as a tool to showcase learning across the school through photos, videos and art work. It should be noted that the comment and messaging features will not be a part of the page as it will be used as solely as a one way communication from the school to the outside community. Please click on the link provided, like the page and share it with friends and family connected to the school. https://www.facebook.com/Goulburn-Street-Primary-School-107019834211726
After a review process last year we have decided to change the process for awarding certificates at assembles. We have decided to align our certificates with our values and have a term focus. This term our focus is ‘Respect’ and what is means to be a respectful member of our school community. This means in two of the assemblies each term, each class will give out two certificates for students that are being respectful. In another change the other two assemblies will now be for ‘Student of the Month’, with each class awarding an all-rounder award for the student who is displaying all the values of respect, growth, aspiration and courage. On these assemblies the known overall school award ‘Aussie of the Month’ will also be awarded.
I can formally introduce our 2020 house captains and vice captains for Oak and Phoenix. The quality of the applicants and speeches were of the highest order, which made it an extremely close contest. The following students were successful; Oak Captains Rosie Purdie and Jace Ling, Oak Vice Captains Olive Turk and Xavier Stone, Phoenix Captains Mira Corry and Jack Corrigan, Phoenix Vice Captains Hallie Cormack and Riley Bearman.
A big thanks to Ms Czeszek for all her hard work in organising the 3-6 Athletics Carnival at the Domain today. The event was a great success with a wonderful supportive atmosphere, with all students trying their best and cheering for their house. I am pleased to announce that Oak was the winner on the day.
Finally, a reminder for our meet the teacher BBQ which be tomorrow Wednesday 19 February. The classroom schedule is attached and I encouraged parents to attend as this is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and familiarise yourself with the classroom environment and class routines. I look forward to seeing you all.
Regards Michael

The SA provided opportunities for parents to meet other parents as well as joining together to help make our school a great place for everyone. It would be great to see some new members! If you would like to nominate for the committee, please complete the nomination form below. The ordinary business of the Annual General meeting is:
(a) to confirm the minutes of the preceding AGM and any special general meeting held since that meeting;
(b) to receive and if approved, to ratify the Associations annual report
(c) to receive and ratify the annual School report;
(d) to receive and ratify the annual financial statement of the Association;
(e) to receive other relevant reports;
(f) to appoint an auditor and determine the auditor’s remuneration;
(g) to conduct an election of the Parent Members of the Committee, subject to rule 3.4.3 (b);
(h) to declare an end to the Association Year and the commencement of the next Association year, thus dissolving the Committee and replacing it with the newly elected one.
GOULBURN STREET PRIMARY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION INC - The DOE requires all schools to have a School Association with an approved constitution. Our Association’s constitution indicates that we must hold an annual general meeting before April 1, therefore we will be holding our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 18th March. At this meeting a new committee will be elected for 2020. The Committee consists of no less than 7 members and no more than 19 members from the following groups-parents (5-10 members), staff (1-3 members), community members (0-3 members) (all of which are elected for a 2 year term) and students (0-2 members, where appropriate and as guided by the staff). The Principal is required to be a member of the SA and is the only member who is not elected. In accordance with the Constitution, half of the committee positions fall vacant each year. The Principal is the returning officer/chairperson for the election of committee members, who once elected, vote for the Association's officers from amongst themselves.
Vacant positions: - parent members; chairperson; secretary;
The Committee’s role is to:
- manage the business and affairs of the Association for the benefit of the school;
- exercise all the powers and functions as outlined in the Constitution.
Details regarding the officers' roles are also set out in the Constitution.
Note: Copies of the Constitution are available from the office.
Even though the above may give the impression that our Association is a very formal body, the meetings and activities have always been conducted in a friendly and informal way. Every effort is made to ensure that everyone is made to feel welcome. Members' participation in a great range of activities is highly valued and much appreciated, particularly since the SA major focus is always in the best interest of our school.
Please return completed form to the office before 24th of July. Thank you

Lessons begin at 9:00am with a teacher commencing duty outside and classroom doors opening at 8:30am. This allows time for students to set up for the first session and to greet teachers before heading outside to play with friends until the morning bell signals the start of school.
The school day ends at 3:00pm. If a student has not been collected by a family member by 3:10pm the class or duty teacher will accompany them to the office from where parents will be contacted. Parents are responsible for their child outside school hours unless they are booked with Lady Gowrie in the afternoon. If using school grounds out of hours it is important to play safely and to be mindful of noise levels as staff members are working nearby.
Schools are required to follow up on unexplained absences and we greatly appreciate notification of absences, by email, through our website or with a phone call on the day to assist us in monitoring attendance. In addition if your child has an appointment, and is therefore late arriving or has an early departure, we require the adult carer to sign the child in or out at the office. Thank you
Students place their order in a brown paper bag with their name, class and lunch items written on the front. The bag is given to the class teacher on Thursday morning for delivery of lunch on Friday. An updated canteen list is attached.
