Dear Families,
We only have two weeks to go in term 2, but we still have plenty to achieve before the end of the term. Our major School Association Fundraiser for the year, the Trivia Night, will be held this Friday in the school hall. If you haven’t booked a table, please get in quick, as we want to ensure we have a full house and raise as much money as possible. It will be a night full of laughs, fun, food and drink and I am very much looking forward to being a part of it for the first time.
Today our cross-country team headed off to Symmons Plains for the annual all-school state cross country carnival. This is the first year all our students have travelled together, with a bus heading up early this morning. A big thanks to Miss Walch and Mrs Coe for organising the event and all the parents who have gone as support. I know our students will run hard to do their best for themselves and the team.
On Wednesday 3 July we are looking forward to a free dress and bake sale raising money for homeless people in Hobart. I am very proud of our year 6 leaders; Claudia Goddard, Felicity Skeggs and Veri Peach for all their hard work in organising the event. Please see the note attached for further details.
Finally I’d like to thank the whole school community for their support and understanding as we manage the renovation project of our toilets. It has presented some challenges particularly with noise during the early stages, but the flexibility and adaptability of our staff and students has made this process as smooth as possible.
Regards Mr Michael Park
5/6 Unit Excursion - kunanyi/Mt Wellington
As part of our unit work on Geography and Visible Wellbeing, on Thursday the 27th June 5/6 Brelis and 5/6 Tymms class will be leaving school at 11am to take part in a winter challenge trek on kunanyi/Mt Wellington. We will be commencing our walk from the Springs and return to the Springs via the Pinnacle, Organ Pipes and Hunter track, weather permitting. Students will need to be well prepared with appropriate warm clothing; windproof/waterproof jacket, beanie, gloves, scarf & footwear, their lunch and a drink bottle. We will return to school by 2.30pm. Parent support is required so please see your child's teacher if you can assist.
Thank you -Jenny Tymms & Wendy Brelis
Emily Conolan – Author Visit to Goulburn Street Primary
On Monday 17th of June, Emily Conolan, Tasmanian Children’s author visited some of our upper primary classes to share with us how she writes her books. Emily writes “Choose your own adventure” books with a focus on stories of immigration. She has written two books, Break your Chains and Touch the Sun and has her third book, Move the Mountains coming out very soon. Emily’s visit was funded by the “The Welcome Dinner Project”, a small organisation that promotes intercultural understandings and connections. We thank Emily for her visit; the students were very engaged and excited by this writing experience.
The Welcome Dinner Project connects newly arrived and established Australians over a pot luck meal in a local home. We recently partnered with Goulburn Street Primary School and author Emily Conolan to run a series of creative writing workshops around migration stories and donated a set of her books Freedom Fighters to your school library. This was made possible through the generous funding from the City of Hobart. Our dinners are free to attend and everyone brings a plate of food to share, something that reminds them of home. These dinners are a wonderful way to say welcome to new people living in our community. We have a Welcome Dinner coming up in Hobart in mid July. To find out more information or to register for future dinners, sign up at: www.welcomedinnerproject.org/the-welcome-dinner-project/join-a-dinner
