Our class have been having fun learning about the origin of number prefixes and extending our vocabulary by investigating related words. Most of them are either Greek or Latin in origin. We also discovered that even though ‘sept…. as in September means 7, and oct….. as in October means 8, the original Roman calendar only had 10 months. When that wasn’t working out too well, they added 2 more months, moving September to the 9^th month and October became our 10^th month! Maybe we should reconsider this and rename our 9^th month Nonaember and 10^th month Decaober?
