Dear Families,
We couldn’t be prouder of the fantastic start we’ve had to the school year! Students have returned eager to learn, ready to collaborate and committed to making our school a positive and productive environment.
Tomorrow, we’re excited to host our Welcome BBQ and Class Information Sessions—a wonderful opportunity for families to visit their child’s classroom and learn more about what happens throughout the week. The School Association will be running a BBQ from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
3.15- 3/4 Brelis, 5/6 Clifford and 5/6 Cook
3.30- Kinder Medcraft and 3/4 Coe/Johnston
3.45- Prep/1 Evans and Prep Budgeon/Ellerton
4.00- 1/2 Shepherd and 2/3 James
This term, as part of our focus on Wellbeing, we will be embedding the value of Connection in all that we do. Classes will engage in activities that explore what it means to be connected, with a special focus on building new relationships with classmates and teachers.
This work will be showcased at our annual Harmony Day Assembly, where we celebrate and learn about different cultures. If any families would like to participate—whether through sharing cultural dances, music, or stories—please contact the school.
We are also currently reviewing our behaviour management system and school-based processes to ensure they align with our community’s expectations and the latest evidence-based practices. This review will involve input from all stakeholders, including teachers, teacher assistants, students, and families.
Our approach will be guided by the work of Dr. Ross Greene, a clinical psychologist and creator of the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model for addressing challenging behaviour in children. You can learn more about Dr. Greene’s work by visiting his website, Lives in the Balance.
We will share more details throughout the term, but at the heart of this shift is a focus on solving the underlying problems that lead to challenging behaviour, rather than simply modifying behaviour through punitive measures. While this approach isn’t new, it does require a change in how we view behaviour and support our students.
We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
Warm regards,
Michael
