Dear Families,
At our whole school assembly on Friday, students shared the work we have been doing on our school values. This term we have been focusing on unpacking the value of ‘Connection’, and what it means to feel connected at Goulburn Street Primary School. What we shared was developed from input received from parents at an assembly last term, teaching staff brainstorms and classroom collaborative brainstorms, with a focus group of students from Year 2 to Year 6 bringing all the work together. Whilst there are further refinements to be made, below are the statements that describe what makes us feel connected to our school.
Our GSPS community feel connected when.
- People are included, are involved in the school/classroom and play and work together as a team
- We have good friends/support people who check in, we can trust and, who support each other
- We have shared memories, traditions and experiences
- We are inclusive and celebrate diversity
- People celebrate successes, remind us of our strengths and complement each other
- We regularly communicate with each other through various modes of communication (Dojo, newsletter, Facebook, conversations)
- We have community events to join together (fairs, quiz nights, BBQs)
- We have positive and friendly conversations with others
- We share student learning in assemblies, classrooms and portfolios
We are very excited for our annual Children’s Book Week Parade this Friday 9:00am in the Dragon area. Students are encouraged to dress up as characters from their favourite books. Parents and friends are invited to line up along the fence line and enjoy the parade. Staff at the school will be dressing up in a joint theme. A clue for the theme is, ‘there is no place like home’.
A reminder our book fair will be held in the Library this Thursday and Friday, families are welcome to come and look before and after school.
Warm Regards Michael
Kinder Barretto has been learning about SYMMETRY. It is important to teach symmetry to kindergarten students because it allows them to see patterns, organise their world, and develop spatial reasoning skills. We have talked about lines of symmetry, we have sung some songs and played ”I spy symmetrical objects in our classroom”, we have sorted pictures into categories (symmetrical or asymmetrical), and painted a symmetrical butterfly, we have made symmetrical pictures using wooden blocks and foam shapes and perfect love hearts for our Invisible String activity. Stay tuned ... there is more to come…

Welcome back to Launching into Learning (LiL) for Term 3!
LiL will continue on Friday mornings from 9-10:30am in the upstairs classroom of the Early Childhood building. We have lots of fun activities and events planned for our youngest students this term, as well as the opportunity to participate in the annual Book Week Parade on Friday 23rd August!
A reminder that Kinder enrolments for 2025 are open, and we will be starting our preparations for next years’ kindergarten students in the coming weeks! Please contact the office if you have a child born in 2020 who is eligible for Kinder next year.
Launching into Learning is a great opportunity for children from 0-4 years of age to become familiar with the school and to make connections with staff and other students!
