Dear Parents and Families,
What a busy two weeks we have had at Goulburn Street Primary! Highlights have been Jon Madin’s amazing musical lessons with all our classes, the Swimming and Water Safety Program and National Simultaneous Storytime.
A massive thank you to Mrs Ovens and Miss Farrell for organising Jon Madin’s visit. The students thoroughly enjoyed their music lessons with Jon and the concert on Thursday afternoon was a chance to showcase the many musical experiences of our students.
Last Friday was the last day of our Swimming and Water Safety Program for 2025. It was fantastic to see all our students improve with their strokes and confidence in the water across the 2 weeks of the program. It is certainly a big two weeks and I thank Mr Latham for his leadership and organisation, and staff and students for their efforts to ensure this program was such a success.
National Simultaneous Storytime is always a favourite on our school calendar. This year the book was, The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. Fourteen of our year 5/6 students enjoyed sharing this story with our school. Firstly, by reading the book to our younger students on Wednesday at 12.00pm at the same time as thousands of children across Australia. On Friday, the same group of students performed a play of the story for our LIL students and the whole school. Congratulations and many thanks to this group of 5/6 students for their efforts in bringing the story alive for all to enjoy.
Next Tuesday, our Interschool Cross Country team will be heading off to compete in the SPSSA Country Cross Country Carnival. Best of luck to all our runners as they take on the course and compete against students from primary schools across the South.
In today’s newsletter you will find information about the upcoming Parent Teacher Discussions in Weeks 8 and 9 of this term (16th June-26th June). I encourage parents to take this opportunity to engage with your child’s class teacher and hear about your child’s learning journey, so far this year.
Have a lovely week!
Kind regards,
Jillian Coe
On the 10th of June 1/2 Shepherd and 2/3 James will be travelling to the Channel Museum in Margate as part of our work in History this term. We will be departing school at 9.15am and will return around 2pm. As the museum cannot accommodate both classes at the same time each class will tour the museum seperately while the other class has something to eat and a play at Dru Point park. The first class will view the museum at 10am and the second class at 11.30am. As the bus has limited seating we ask that parents meet us at the museum or park in Margate using their own transport. Students will need to wear full school uniform, bring a drink bottle and their packed lunch. Please let Miss James or Miss Shepherd know if you are able to come along. Thank you.
Music News - Jon Madin Whacky Instrument Workshops
What an amazing two days we all had last week with teacher, composer and inventor extraordinaire Jon Madin and his whacky instruments! All classes had great fun trying out lots of different instruments, such as ding boxes, echocellos, marimbas, singing bikes and more! All students worked very hard, honed their musical skills and had fantastic fun too!
The ding boxes “stampede” was a special favourite with Early Childhood classes – along with the exciting pump, melodica and tyre machine and its exploding gloves!!

The previous experience of the Primary classes shone through as they made beautiful music on the echocellos and marimbas, remembering and building on their knowledge from previous Jon Madin sessions. Ms Farrell was particularly impressed by how quickly some students could spell ‘cabbage’ on the marimba! It was fantastic to see the joy and laughter that the music and whacky experiences brought to the students’ faces.

Conratulations to everyone on our wonderful concert last Thursday afternoon. Thank you to all the parents and friends who attended – you were a great audience! Special thanks to staff and parents who did a stellar impromptu performance with their dancing and with the crazy pump and tyre machine! A sincere thanks to all students and parents who helped bump in and out.

We look forward to welcoming Jon back in the future!

Goulburn Street Students running in the City to Casino
On Sunday, 18th May, students from Goulburn Street participated in the annual City to Casino 2.7km Fun Run.
Given it was such a terribly cold morning, all students did a fabulous job of completing the course and were rewarded with a participation medal at the finish line!
The student results were:
Matilda Bartl – 17:11
Lucy Clifford – 17:17
Charlotta Bartle – 17:58
Abby Gorman – 17:58
Miller Smith – 17:59
Alice Clifford – 20:05
Well done to each of you for putting in such a brilliant performance!

School Photos -Tuesday 24th of June
Tuesday June 24th is school photo day. We ask that all students wear their full school uniform and arrive at school on time as photos will taken from 9.00am onward.
A Quick Reminder About Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Just a friendly reminder to help keep everyone safe and things running smoothly at drop-off and pick-up times:
The front of the school is a No Parking zone between 8.00-9.00am and 2.00-3.30pm. It’s a quick drop-off/pick-up area only, and drivers need to stay in their cars and move on once your child is safely out.
Also, please make sure to use the crossing when walking across the road. It sets a great example for the kids and keeps everyone safe.
Finally, we ask that families please do not park over the neighbouring properties driveways.
Thank you for your help and understanding!
The School Association will be hosting a Movie Afternoon for children from K-6 on Wednesday the 2nd of July from 3.00pm. More details to come!

Defibrillator Installed Onsite
We are pleased to announce that a defibrillator has been installed at our school, located just outside the library. This important addition is part of a public health initiative aimed at ensuring life-saving equipment is readily accessible to the entire community.
Since its installation, our students have shown curiosity about the new addition. After some gentle reminders, they now understand the importance of not touching or opening the door.
We are proud to support community safety with this valuable resource and appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping the defibrillator accessible and secure.
