Dear Families
As we reach the end of a busy and rewarding term, I would like to sincerely thank our incredible school community. To our families, staff, and students, your dedication, hard work, and support throughout the term have been outstanding. Together, we continue to create a school where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to learn.
A big thanks to all the classes who presented at today’s NAIDOC Week assembly. It was a wonderful celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history, and the future aspirations of our First Nations people. The stories and artwork shared were thoughtful, respectful, and inspiring – a proud moment for our school.
I would also like to personally pay my respects and acknowledge the Muwinina people, the traditional custodians of the land on which Goulburn Street Primary School stands. We are in a truly unique position, nestled on the foothills of Kunanyi overlooking Nipaluna (Hobart) and timtumili minanya (the River Derwent). I honour their enduring connection to this land – past, present, and emerging.
Today your child will bring home communication about your child’s learning (report) for the middle of the year, including their portfolios will go home today. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher to discuss the report early in Term 3. A reminder portfolios will need to return to school by the end of Week 1.
I wish all our families a safe, restful, and well-deserved break. We look forward to seeing you all again for another exciting term ahead.
Warm regards,
Michael

School Active Travel Plan Implementation.... June 2025
The City of Hobart are planning to implement priority projects 2 & 3 of the School Active Travel Plans below:
Forest Road / Frederick Street Junction – continuous footpath
Forest Road / Liverpool Crescent Junction – pedestrian refuge and kerb modifications
This is notification that the works will be commencing in 2-3 weeks. Note that Forest Road will remain open to general traffic, there may be some delays at the junctions due to traffic management.
Nude Food at Goulburn Street Primary School
We are keen to reduce the amount of rubbish in our school. On way we thought we could do this is by promoting Nude Food Lunchboxes. A nude food lunchbox is a lunchbox with food that is not wrapped in single use packaging like plastic wrap, foil or disposable bags.
Next term we will be having a weekly competition for which class has the best nude food lunchboxes – that means the class with the least amount of packaging.
Some ideas for nude food are fruit, vegies, sandwiches, wraps, snacks in containers like popcorn, biscuits or pretzels.
Thank you for your support,
The Term 2 Class Representatives – Ever, Xanthe, Matilda, Daisy, Sarthak, Addie, Andre, Yola, Kitty and Edie.
Defibrillator Installed Onsite
We are pleased to announce that a defibrillator has been installed at our school, located just outside the library. This important addition is part of a public health initiative aimed at ensuring life-saving equipment is readily accessible to the entire community.
Since its installation, our students have shown curiosity about the new addition. After some gentle reminders, they now understand the importance of not touching or opening the door.
We are proud to support community safety with this valuable resource and appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping the defibrillator accessible and secure.

A Quick Reminder About Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Just a friendly reminder to help keep everyone safe and things running smoothly at drop-off and pick-up times:
The front of the school is a No Parking zone between 8.00-9.00am and 2.00-3.30pm. It’s a quick drop-off/pick-up area only, and drivers need to stay in their cars and move on once your child is safely out.
Also, please make sure to use the crossing when walking across the road. It sets a great example for the kids and keeps everyone safe.
Finally, we ask that families please do not park over the neighbouring properties driveways.
Thank you for your help and understanding!
Dear Nature Lovers,
The July winter holidays are approaching fast – join us for our exciting Nature Holiday Program, trusted by Hobart families since 2018!
Children will immerse themselves in nature, learn fire-by-friction skills, and enjoy hands-on outdoor adventures. It’s a wonderful chance to spark confidence, creativity, and resilience, all while having fun and making new friends.
Please see the attached flyer for full details. We’d greatly appreciate it if you could share it in your school newsletter or pass it on to families who might be interested.
See you outside,
Kara
