Dear Families,
Last Thursday, we held our second Activity Afternoon, with students from Prep to Year 6 enjoying a variety of arts, crafts, cooking, and games. We are excited about this wonderful new addition to our school calendar and are looking forward to expanding the program to potentially two afternoons in Term 3. If you're a community member with a skill you'd like to share with our children, please contact the office to register your interest.
Parent/Teacher Interviews will begin next week, running from Monday 16 June to Friday 27 June. These midyear interviews are a valuable opportunity for families to meet with their child’s class teacher and discuss their progress. To make a booking, please visit https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au and follow the prompts.
Next week also marks the beginning of the annual Premier’s Reading Challenge. This initiative offers children a wonderful opportunity to discover the joy of reading while setting personal goals.
Reading helps children make sense of the world around them. It sparks curiosity, fuels imagination, and plays a vital role in developing essential literacy skills, independence, and confidence.
Over the next 10 weeks, children are encouraged to enjoy a wide range of texts, including picture books, chapter books, audiobooks, digital formats, and graphic novels. The Challenge is not a competition – it's a personal journey that supports a lifelong love of reading.
Parents and carers are encouraged to read with their child and support them in forming regular reading habits. A small daily commitment can make a significant difference in a child’s future. Your child’s reading log will be sent home next week by their class teacher.
Warm Regards
Michael

This term 1/2 Shepherd have been looking into how people lived in the past. We have looked at changes in technology and compared items from the past with what we use now. We have looked at lots of photos, videos and real artefacts. A few weeks ago we used a glass jar and thickened cream to make our own butter which we very much enjoyed on bread with jam.

Today we visited the Channel Museum. We looked at artefacts in the library as well as having a guided tour of the museum learning lots about houses and schools in the past.
ANZAC Day in 3/4CJ
Earlier this term, our class learnt about the importance of ANZAC Day. As part of our learning, we shared information about family members who had served in a war. Following this, we created portraits of our relatives or other soldiers of servicemen or women. Using our knowledge of what the conditions were like for our relatives and soldiers and nurses, we also created diaries and letters and published them using a collage technique inspired by the book, The Beach They Called Gallipoli by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley. Please come to our classroom and have a closer look at our great writing and portraits.

On Wednesday 18th June, Kinder students will be participating in an incursion with Kara from Nature Be In It. The session will run from 9:30 – 11:30am in our Natureland space, so students will need to bring along weather appropriate clothing and shoes. Kara will help us to further explore our Natureland site and will lead us in cooking damper over an open fire. Kinders will have a late recess on this day.
A number of sports tops have not been returned to Goulburn Street after recent sporting events. If you have any at home or could check your childs bag it would be appreciated. Thank you
School Photos -Tuesday 24th of June
Tuesday June 24th is school photo day. We ask that all students wear their full school uniform and arrive at school on time as photos will taken from 9.00am onward.
Defibrillator Installed Onsite
We are pleased to announce that a defibrillator has been installed at our school, located just outside the library. This important addition is part of a public health initiative aimed at ensuring life-saving equipment is readily accessible to the entire community.
Since its installation, our students have shown curiosity about the new addition. After some gentle reminders, they now understand the importance of not touching or opening the door.
We are proud to support community safety with this valuable resource and appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping the defibrillator accessible and secure.

A Quick Reminder About Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Just a friendly reminder to help keep everyone safe and things running smoothly at drop-off and pick-up times:
The front of the school is a No Parking zone between 8.00-9.00am and 2.00-3.30pm. It’s a quick drop-off/pick-up area only, and drivers need to stay in their cars and move on once your child is safely out.
Also, please make sure to use the crossing when walking across the road. It sets a great example for the kids and keeps everyone safe.
Finally, we ask that families please do not park over the neighbouring properties driveways.
Thank you for your help and understanding!
