Dear Families,
It has been wonderful to see so many parents come in for parent-teacher meetings to discuss the progress your children are making. Two-way communication is crucial for ensuring strong relationships between school and home and is an important factor in helping students reach their full potential in the school environment.
As Principal, I would like to remind families that my door is always open, and I am always keen to hear feedback from the community about any concerns, questions, or ideas on how we can improve our school. If I’m not available immediately, please make an appointment with the office.
The safety of all students and families when arriving and leaving Goulburn Street Primary School is something we must take very seriously. We have two main exit points from our school: the top exit on Forest Road and the bottom exit on Goulburn Street. We are fortunate to have a crossing guard on Goulburn Street, so where possible, we strongly encourage families to use this crossing. The top crossing is supported by school staff after school. To ensure safety, families must cross at the designated crossing areas. There is poor visibility approaching both crossings, and cars at times do not stop. Using the crossing is the only way to ensure that cars see students and families crossing the road.
Our “Chill Out – Winter School Disco” is next Thursday, July 4th, in the school hall. All students must return the permission form and pay $10 to the office to attend. This is a School Association-led event, and we already have parent support in place. Our staff will also be in attendance, providing duty of care for all students.
A reminder that students in the K-2 disco will be taken directly to the hall at 2:50 pm and will be signed in by school staff. Students in the 3-6 disco will leave school at the normal time and return for the start of the disco at 4:15 pm. All students will need to be collected from the hall at the conclusion of their event, either at 4:00 pm or 5:15 pm.
Warm regards,
Michael

This term 1/2 Shepherd have been learning about how people lived in the past. We have looked at homes, school, transport, games and technology.
We went on an excursion to the Cascades Female Factory and learnt about how convicts lived and worked. We did some washing using an old wash board and tub. We hung the washing out using dolly pegs and also used them to craft an old-fashioned toy.
We also did a homework activity where we surveyed a grandparent or parent about their experiences as a child. We loved hearing each other's stories!
Here are some of our learnings from this unit:
I learnt that the toilet was sometimes far away from the house. Asher
I was interested in how they did Drill at school which is like Daily PE. They used weights and danced around the maypole. Xanthe
I never thought my Nan would have got the cane. I think it is strange how they called the toilet the lavatory. Lucia
I learnt that people had to carry candles upstairs to bed. Jameson
I was interested learning about games at school like jumping games. Millie
My Grumps got the cane twice. One of the reasons was because he dipped the end of a girl's plaits in an inkwell and it splattered everywhere! Grace
I liked learning about how people in the early morning would sell rabbits and would shout out "rabbit o!" Harry
I didn't know there were other types of transport before cars. I didn't know the school was built so long ago. Charlotte

5/6 Brelis Exploring Number Prefixes and Graphic Organisers
Our class have been having fun learning about the origin of number prefixes and extending our vocabulary by investigating related words. Most of them are either Greek or Latin in origin. We also discovered that even though ‘sept…. as in September means 7, and oct….. as in October means 8, the original Roman calendar only had 10 months. When that wasn’t working out too well, they added 2 more months, moving September to the 9th month and October became our 10th month! Maybe we should reconsider this and rename our 9th month Nonaember and 10th month Decaober?

Hope you enjoy our number prefix slide show organisers as much as we did designing and constructing them!
During Term 2 in Music, students have loved our conducting activities. We recently purchased a professional baton and the children have had a great time learning how to ‘animate’ their fellow classmate musicians! Each conductor has their own style and some children have turned out to be naturals! We have used the baton with a range of music styles including jazz, contemporary, classical and movie scores.
Some classes have also been enjoying movement and rhyme games to develop awareness of beat and inner musical listening/hearing.
In all classes we have been focussing on improving our musical general knowledge. We have also all been working continually on our underpinning knowledge, reading and use of notation.
We hope you enjoy these photos!
