Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe we are already in the final two weeks of Term 2. The year is certainly flying by, and it has been a wonderful term filled with learning, growth, and connection.
Over the past fortnight, it was fantastic to see so many parents attend our parent-teacher interviews. These conversations are such an important part of your child’s learning journey. They provide valuable opportunities to celebrate progress, share insights, and work together to support your child at school. Thank you for making the time to be part of these discussions.
Onn Tuesday 1st July, our students will have the opportunity to experience The NED Show, an engaging performance that promotes a positive mindset through the themes of Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. The students loved the interactive show and its powerful messages about resilience and kindness. As part of the program, yo-yos are available for purchase at the office to help reinforce these lessons through play.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 25th June, our Kinder to Year 2 students will take part in the Bravehearts’ Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show. This important program teaches children essential personal safety skills using age-appropriate language, songs, and dance. It’s a fun, engaging way to help our youngest learners build the confidence and knowledge they need to keep themselves safe.
A reminder that our final assembly of the term will be held on Friday, 4th July. This will be a special NAIDOC Week assembly, where we come together to celebrate and honour the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We warmly invite all families to join us for this important event.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we head towards the end of another busy and successful term.
Warm regards,
Michael
Leading Image have kindly offered to have a catch up day due to our many families that have students away sick and families who did not book in for Family photos today. The catch up day is Monday the 30th of June at 9.00am. If you missed out on your childs individual or family photo please let Fran in the office know before Monday.
On Wednesday, 2nd July, 5/6 Clifford will be walking to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery to engage in a self-guided tour of ‘The World of Beetles’ exhibition. Students will be taking their art books so they can sketch the different beetles on display as part of our science learning around the structural features of living things.
The class will be leaving school at 9:30 and return by 12pm.
If there are any parents who would like to join us on our walk and/or tour of the exhibit, please contact Mr Clifford or the office. All volunteers must have a current RWVP card and undertaken the mandatory Safeguard training.
Thank you
Nicholas Clifford
This term, our class began our Nature Play program in the school’s Natureland space. Each Wednesday morning, we pop on our gumboots and set off for a morning of exploring, noticing and wondering!
Nature Play is an opportunity for children to participate in unstructured outdoor play that encourages risk taking, decision making and innovation. Not only is it important for children’s wellbeing, it offers a myriad of real-world learning opportunities and the chance for rich, authentic collaboration with classmates.
So far, our Kinder students have enjoyed climbing trees, searching for insects, building forts and cubbies, using ropes and pulleys and serving coffee and soup at the Bush Café! We have been investigating how we can care for the space and the creatures who live there.
Last week, we were lucky enough to welcome Kara Spence from Nature Be In It. Kara spent the morning learning and playing alongside us. We began our session by reading ‘We Love Country’, talking about the Aboriginal flag and Kara led us in an acknowledgement of country.
Kara brought along some new materials for the children to experiment with and one group of children were very keen to test out a hammock. They worked hard to find ropes of the correct length, climb the tree and tie the ropes. There was lots of learning around turn-taking. As they took turns swinging one another on the hammock, the looks on their faces were priceless.
Children also had some practice using a flint and steel to create a flame. It is a rather tricky skill but some children were able to do it! This was a great exercise in persistence and growth-mindset.
The highlight of the session was cooking damper over an open fire. Most children gave it a thumbs up and some even went back for seconds!
Some words from the children about their experience –
Flossy – I liked the damper. It was yummy!
Felix – I really liked the swing because it was fun. But also, I’ve never done fire at school before!
Mikaela – I liked playing in the sand with Daisy.
Eddie E – I liked the fire!
Eddie B – I loved playing Xavier in the hammock because it was fun.
Maisie – I liked everything!
Science gets Fizzy and Fabulous in 3/4 Brelis’ Class
Last week, as part of our Science/STEM unit, our young scientists in 3/4 Brelis enjoyed some fun challenges experimenting with solids, liquids and gases and things got bright, bubbly and a bit messy! Armed with curiosity and some food dye and shaving cream, students captured rainbows in a jar!

Then came the lava lamps DIY style. With oil, water, food colouring, glitter and a dash of science magic (Alka-Seltzer), students watched in awe as colourful blobs danced and fizzed like a disco party in a bottle!

These hands-on experiments were a lot of fun and a great way to explore how different states of matter interact.
Nude Food at Goulburn Street Primary School
We are keen to reduce the amount of rubbish in our school. On way we thought we could do this is by promoting Nude Food Lunchboxes. A nude food lunchbox is a lunchbox with food that is not wrapped in single use packaging like plastic wrap, foil or disposable bags.
Next term we will be having a weekly competition for which class has the best nude food lunchboxes – that means the class with the least amount of packaging.
Some ideas for nude food are fruit, vegies, sandwiches, wraps, snacks in containers like popcorn, biscuits or pretzels.
Thank you for your support,

A Quick Reminder About Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Just a friendly reminder to help keep everyone safe and things running smoothly at drop-off and pick-up times:
The front of the school is a No Parking zone between 8.00-9.00am and 2.00-3.30pm. It’s a quick drop-off/pick-up area only, and drivers need to stay in their cars and move on once your child is safely out.
Also, please make sure to use the crossing when walking across the road. It sets a great example for the kids and keeps everyone safe.
Finally, we ask that families please do not park over the neighbouring properties driveways.
Thank you for your help and understanding!
Defibrillator Installed Onsite
We are pleased to announce that a defibrillator has been installed at our school, located just outside the library. This important addition is part of a public health initiative aimed at ensuring life-saving equipment is readily accessible to the entire community.
Since its installation, our students have shown curiosity about the new addition. After some gentle reminders, they now understand the importance of not touching or opening the door.
We are proud to support community safety with this valuable resource and appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping the defibrillator accessible and secure.

Dear Nature Lovers,
The July winter holidays are approaching fast – join us for our exciting Nature Holiday Program, trusted by Hobart families since 2018!
Children will immerse themselves in nature, learn fire-by-friction skills, and enjoy hands-on outdoor adventures. It’s a wonderful chance to spark confidence, creativity, and resilience, all while having fun and making new friends.
Please see the attached flyer for full details. We’d greatly appreciate it if you could share it in your school newsletter or pass it on to families who might be interested.
See you outside,
Kara
