Dear Families,
Our recent Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival was a fantastic event. It was wonderful to see our students doing their best in the pool, cheering on their peers, and proudly supporting their houses. A big thank you to Mr. Latham for all his hard work in organising and coordinating such a successful day. It was also terrific to see so many families and friends in attendance, creating a great atmosphere for our students. Well done to Oak, who were the winning house on the day!
We are excited to share that the monkey bars are back! Our old set has been refurbished and moved under the Oak Tree. This play equipment has always been a favourite with our students, and it looks great in its new location. Students may have noticed that the high monkey bar had to be removed during this process, and we are already in discussions about where this could be reinstalled in the future.
Last Friday we held our annual National Day of Action Against Bullying Assembly. Students from Prep B and 3/4 Brelis showcased their learning through song, dance, and art. This year’s theme of Be Bold, Be Kind, Speak Up, was communicated with great passion and understanding. It was a wonderful reminder that, as a school community, we all have a role to play in ensuring our students feel safe, valued, and heard.
On Wednesday this week we will hold our annual Book Week Parade, starting at 9:00am. Parents and carers are warmly invited to gather near the Dragon to enjoy the wonderful array of costumes as our students and staff celebrate their favourite books.
Finally, we wish all the students who were selected in the Winter Sports Combined Schools Teams the very best at their respective carnivals held today. We know you will do yourselves and our school proud.
Warm regards,
Michael

This Term, our focus in Kinder and Primary Music is the element of pitch, which is the highness or lowness of sound.
In Kinder, we have been singing songs such as Apple Tree and Jon Madin’s Pudding on the Hill. We have now started to find the notes for these songs on the xylophones, which is a lot of fun!
The 3/4s have also started to play both xylophones and marimbas. We began by playing simple pitch patterns whilst keeping a steady beat and we performed the patterns along to Recomposed: Spring by Max Richter. As a bonus task, 3/4 Coe even worked out the correct notes for Baby Shark! Throughout the term, we will progress to playing more difficult pieces as well as composing using pitch.
The 5/6s are exploring pitch by creating music using technology and playing chords on the ukulele. They have been learning to create melodies and chord progressions on Chrome Music Lab Song Maker, a fantastic music technology application that enables students to compose their own complex, multi-part music. This week, the students were challenged to use a common chord progression (C-G-Am-F) and make it their own by composing a unique melody and rhythm to go with it.
Follow the links to hear some of their fantastic creations:
5/6 Clifford:
5/6 Cook:
While some students worked on the Song Maker task, others had their first ukulele lesson, with the focus on playing the same C-G-Am-F chord progression, building on their current skills and refining their technique.
It’s been a busy and fun few weeks, and I’m looking forward to hearing more fabulous music this Term from our Kinder and Primary students.

Our Combined Primary Schools Choir (DEC Choir) has begun working very hard on repertoire, as are our Bands, for the culminating concert in Term 4 on Nov 21st at MyState Bank Arena, with all the Combined Primary Schools Bands from the Southern Region.
In this small choir, we have started learning our songs – having fun, as well as consolidating and extending many musical and social skills, such as listening, rhythm and beat, singing technique, phrasing, appreciation of different styles of music, commitment, application, teamwork, self-discipline and perseverance, to name a few!
The CPSChoir will attend a full day workshop on August 21st and several after school rehearsals too, where we will join with children from about a dozen other schools to form a big choir and rehearse our songs – hard work but lots of fun too!
Along with our Grades 5 and 6 Bands, the CPSChoir is excited and really looking forward to representing Goulburn Street Primary School at this fabulous concert!
We hope you like these photos of our CPSChoir - Jameson, Grace, Sarthak. Addie, Audrey, Lucia, Elroy, Owen, Lucy, Levi, Percy, Ryan, Daisy and Charles.

STEM Spectacular Excursion – 3-4CJ
On Tuesday last week, our class had the exciting opportunity to attend the STEM Spectacular at Hobart City High School. Students participated in a range of hands-on workshops that explored different areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The day began with an engineering challenge where students built towers using only spaghetti and marshmallows. This fun and creative task encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and innovative thinking.
Next, we delved into biology, dissecting flowers to identify their parts and learning about pollination. Students also had the chance to use microscopes to observe fine details up close, sparking curiosity about the natural world.
In the final workshop, students explored chemistry through an engaging experiment where they used a chemical reaction to blow up a balloon. It was a great way to learn about gases and reactions in a fun and interactive way.
Overall, the excursion was a fantastic experience that inspired our students to think like scientists and engineers. A big thank you to Hobart City High School for hosting such a spectacular day!
